Join the 23rd Annual Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting on the second Sunday in December to honor the memories of our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon.
As candles are lit at 7:00 pm local time, the world creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. Whether you make it to the Village Green here in Cashiers, North Carolina or light a candle from your home, our flames burn brighter together.
My name is Bambi and my candle will be dedicated to my daughter, Katelyn Joy Derstine, who was killed in a car accident in 2006. Katelyn was a University of Florida student majoring in environmental horticulture and a talented violinist. I think about Katelyn each day and cherish every opportunity to honor her.
